While watching a ReconRides video, you'll see ratings appear during off-road segments. Similar to what you might see on Trailforks or a ski slope, this is my attempt to delineate the difficulty of trails ridden in the videos. They're pretty subjective but should give you a reasonable estimation of the terrain. Scroll down to learn more.
A pretty mellow trail. Mostly flat double track and not much tech, if any.
A more technical trail that's mostly rideable but requires some bike handling skills. Obstacles may include roots, rocks, and mud. May include some hike-a-bike.
A highly technical, super steep, or overly muddy trail (or all of the above) that will include hike-a-bike sections. These trails may also be rideable but can be long, with varying terrain and very physically demanding.
A road or trail that is basically impassable or largely unrideable due to flooding, overgrowth, felled trees or excessive debris. Best avoided unless you're into bushwhacking.
